Geneological records show ancestor, John Wakefield, born in Gravesend in early 1600s. Enjoyed seeing the photos and reading about the history. Thanks for maintaining the site.

I found your excellent site when searching Alfred Tolhurst on Yahoo. My I say what an extremly good web site you have made for Gravesend it is first class it must have made all your hard work and effort worthwhile. It was wonderful to see my great grand father mention on the Clock Tower page. Bill Hudson and I have recently written a book about him called Alfred Tolhurst The Life and Times of a Victorian Entrepreneur. My best wishes for the site David Tolhurst

Interesting Site. Was born in GNK Hospital in 1950, Kings Farm Primary and St. Georges CofE Secondary. By 1966 couldn't wait to leave Gravesend and join R.N. Very very infrequent visitor now-a-days(sorry Mum !)Not much to miss about Gravesend!

Good web page, made me think of the past. I was born in Gravesend in 1946, I left when too many from other places started arriving.
The Gravesend I knew is dead and gone along with Northcourt school and the Globe pub. Only shadows remain; what has replaced the Gravesend I loved is a dirty boil on the backside of Kent.
Too many people - too many awful new buildings.

Hello Stuart are you the stuart Dyer that used to work on the tugs? I agree with your last statement Gravesend has changed so much since the Co-op hall,General Gorden pub and all of the other dances

It was impossible to find out rates, availability or even a phone no. to make enquiries. Frustratingly time consuming.

This web site is not for promoting Hotels or any other commercial business. It is about the changes to some of the buildings and locations in Gravesend.
